This Sunday, I returned to Pier 54 to photograph the MoonDance series again. But this visit was anything but ordinary...
The evening started with Mariana Parma and Rodney Lopez conducting a salsa lesson for the people on the Chelsea pier. After the lesson, Los Hermanos Colon took over playing music for the people to dance to. Then, Mariana and Rodney went on to perform.
There must have been something about the way they danced because no less than 5 minutes after they were done, the underside of the pier had caught on fire and everyone was vacated from the pier.
For me, this meant that I wouldn't get an opportunity to shoot the band and singers as I had last week. But I had a decent position during the dance performance and was able to get 1 shot that I loved.
After some heavy photoshopping to remove the distracting background, I was able to get the lead image. I absolutely love this shot. My favorite part is that it totally seems to be shot in a studio with a seamless background.
