New Sidearm Camera

Vince Muccioli Manhattan Canon G11
2 weeks ago, I scored an awesome deal on a Canon Powershot G11. And I finally had a chance to test it out in the real world tonight.

While this point and shoot could never compare to my dSLR for the average pictures, there are some features that this camera has that makes it quite handy (like a hot-shoe and RAW capability).

The first feature that this camera has is a very high flash synch speed. This camera can synch with a regular flash at speeds up to 1/1000th of a sec. This means you can bring down the ambient level by 2.5 stops while still getting full power from the flash.

The second feature that makes this camera very attractive is its insane macro mode. It can focus on something close enough to be touching the lens. To be able to do this on my dSLR would require lenses that cost more than this little camera.

Lastly, the most important feature of this new camera is that it is small and could be carried anywhere I go. I won't be able to make huge posters from the shots, but it can make a decent 8x10. I could always take my dSLR back to the spot to get poster size images if I need to.

I look forward to posting some great shots of all of those "I wish I had my camera" moments. And I plan on testing out the macro abilities very soon. Central Park Conservatory Gardens here I come!
